Just a little about the village we live in. Cury is a very rural area and is situated seven miles from the lizard point. Cury is mostly a farming community with several farms in the outlying area. We are blessed with beautiful country side which has not been spoilt and is a haven to a lot of wild life, we are also very lucky to have some beautiful beaches on our doorstep (Poldhu and Gunwalloe) which attracts huge numbers of holiday makers each summer. The village hall in Cury is a hive of activity with many activities taking place each day. We have a school (Cury Church Of England School) which has about thirty six pupils attending there the teaching standards are second to none. We have the Cury Parish Church which is dedicated to St Corentin”s. The origins are believed to date from Norman times as artefact's that have been discovered has evidence of this, such as the unique carving's, and a pillar forming the South entrance. The Chancel end is the only remaining structure from this period and recent renovations have exposed Norman window arches in this area. The church is reputed to one of the oldest in the area. The Church fell in to disrepair during the nineteenth century but was benefited from major works between 1872/1874 which include the superb Hammer beam roof that can be seen today. A large Celtic cross at the south entrance is unusual and unique as it is 9ft tall and expert opinion suggests that it dates from 400 AD. Cury Church is still very active and services are held every Sunday at 930 am. The village does seem to be isolated but nothing could be further from the truth. The local village of Mullion which is no more than two miles away has everything people need. Pubs, Art Galleries, Food Shops and two Garages, D.T.Auto Repairs, and Mullion Garage, Hair Salons and an electrical shop.
